Mechanical Engineering Specialist – Supply Chain Engineering

About the role

Unilever is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Specialist to join the Engineering team at its Leioa plant in the Basque Country. This hands‑on position will own plant improvement projects from concept through implementation, directly impacting efficiency, safety and operational capability on the factory floor.

Key responsibilities

• Lead improvement projects, defining scope, resources, timelines and execution plans.
• Drive change‑management activities and ensure proper documentation of technical projects.
• Partner with suppliers and contractors to develop safety prevention plans and meet regulatory requirements.
• Oversee daily project execution, approve work permits and assume technical and safety ownership.
• Manage project budgets in coordination with Finance and monitor CAPEX spending.
• Support engineering governance, including project prioritisation and cross‑functional coordination.
• Design installations that meet multi‑department needs and translate business requirements into technical solutions.
• Communicate technical requirements clearly to suppliers and lead technical discussions.
• Coordinate multiple complex projects while adapting to production schedules, shutdown windows, safety and quality constraints.
• Collaborate with other Unilever sites and global engineering teams to share best practices.

Required profile

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
• 3‑5 years of relevant experience in industrial or manufacturing environments.
• Demonstrated potential to grow into project‑leadership roles and manage projects independently.
• Working knowledge of P&ID, Microstation, AutoCAD and standard Microsoft Office tools.
• Experience managing engineering improvement projects, CAPEX investments or technical initiatives is preferred.
