PLC Engineer – Industrial Automation

About the role

Bystronic is looking for a PLC Engineer to join its Software team. You will design, program and test PLC‑based control systems that power smart machinery for sheet‑metal manufacturing, helping customers digitise the entire production chain.

Key responsibilities

• Design, program and test PLC control systems for industrial machinery.
• Develop and maintain automation architectures that meet project specifications.
• Collaborate with mechanical, electrical and software engineers to ensure seamless system integration.
• Support commissioning and testing activities in both laboratory and field environments.
• Manage multiple ongoing projects, ensuring timely delivery and rapid issue resolution.
• Act as a technical reference to unblock complex mechatronic projects when needed.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Automation, Electronics, Industrial Engineering or a related technical field.
• Minimum of 4 years of hands‑on experience in PLC software development.
• Proven experience with at least one major PLC platform.

Required skills

• Knowledge of Beckhoff TwinCAT, B&R or Siemens TIA Portal.
• Understanding of fieldbus systems and protocols such as Profinet, EtherCAT, Modbus and OPC UA.
• Familiarity with safety standards and automation best practices.
• Strong English communication skills, both spoken and written.
