Pricing Actuary

About the role

Arch Insurance International is looking for a nearly qualified or qualified Actuary to support the growth of its European business. This is a broad, business-facing pricing role covering Property, Casualty, Marine, Financial Lines and other Specialty classes, working closely with underwriting colleagues in Paris, Madrid and Milan, and with actuarial and pricing teams in London and Dublin. The role sits in the actuarial team and reports to the Chief Actuary of Arch Insurance International.

Key responsibilities

• Pricing: support the development, enhancement and localisation of pricing models and tools, provide actuarial support to underwriters on individual account pricing for large and complex risks, monitor prices for renewals and new business and keep track of market rate and loss cost trends.
• Planning and forecasting: work with reserving, pricing and underwriting teams on expected loss ratios, emergence patterns and return metrics, and support analysis linking pricing, planning and reserving views of performance.
• MI reporting: develop, maintain and communicate monthly MI report findings, and give actuarial insight to underwriters and management on emerging trends and opportunities.
• General: communicate with underwriters, management and actuarial teams across Europe, keep up professional development and credentials, and balance technical rigour with commercial judgement.

Required profile

• Nearly qualified or qualified Actuary.
• At least 5 years of experience in General Insurance; specialty pricing experience is beneficial.
• Fluent written and spoken English; proficiency in French, Spanish or Italian is highly desirable.
• Interest in European markets and their local nuances.

Required skills

• Strong technical actuarial capability with a practical, commercial approach.
• Excellent communication skills, able to explain actuarial concepts to underwriters and senior stakeholders.
• Ability to work independently in a geographically dispersed team and to manage several lines of business and stakeholders.
• Advanced Microsoft Office, including Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Word.
