Project Engineer – Mechatronics for ALBA II

About the role

As a Project Engineer in the Mechatronics field, you will join the mechanical and project engineering team at ALBA’s projects office. You will contribute to the Enabling Technologies for the ALBA II upgrade, designing cutting‑edge mechanical and mechatronic components required for nanomotion and nanopositioning on upcoming nanofocus beamlines.

Key responsibilities

• Design ultra‑high‑vacuum compatible mechanical parts for nanomotion and nanopositioning using 3D CAD tools.
• Perform thermal simulations with ANSYS to validate designs.
• Generate and supervise 2D manufacturing drawings and ensure documentation quality.
• Monitor the manufacturing process, liaise with suppliers, and approve final parts.
• Collaborate closely with engineers in ALBA’s Nanomotion Lab to integrate prototypes.

Required profile

• Degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics or related engineering discipline.
• Experience in designing high‑precision vacuum equipment.
• Ability to work in a multidisciplinary research environment.
• Strong communication skills for cross‑team collaboration.

Required skills

• 3D CAD modelling
• ANSYS thermal simulation
• Mechanical design of ultra‑high‑vacuum components
• Preparation of 2D manufacturing drawings
• Knowledge of nanopositioning and nanomotion technologies
