QA Engineer – AI‑Driven Test Automation

About the role

CARTO is looking for a QA Engineer who will own the end‑to‑end quality of its location‑intelligence platform. You will work closely with developers and product managers to build AI‑assisted testing tools, automate test execution, and ensure reliable releases for customers worldwide.

Key responsibilities

• Design AI‑driven tooling that converts requirements, specs and tickets into executable test plans.
• Use AI agents to write, extend and repair automated tests, evaluating their correctness and coverage.
• Automate test suites that run on every code change, stay fast, avoid flakiness and provide clear failure diagnostics.
• Partner with development and product teams to review test coverage on pull requests and prevent regressions.
• Convert manual test cases into automated ones while maintaining an inventory of remaining manual tests.
• Perform exploratory manual testing for visual, cartographic, and complex data‑flow validation.
• Create and maintain test data, including datasets, warehouse connections and multi‑source maps.
• Write spatial SQL queries to validate analysis outputs directly.

Required profile

• Hands‑on experience with AI coding assistants (e.g., Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Cursor) in daily work.
• Comfortable writing and debugging TypeScript or JavaScript code.
• Experience with modern E2E frameworks such as Playwright or Cypress.
• Background in API testing and test automation.
• Ability to query and validate data using SQL, including spatial SQL concepts.
