Senior Counsel, OPX

About the role

Westinghouse Electric Company’s OPX Business Unit delivers products and services to nuclear power plant customers worldwide. The Senior Counsel, OPX will act as the primary legal advisor for the unit, guiding commercial and contractual matters throughout the project lifecycle.

Key responsibilities

• Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements, including FIDIC and NEC4 contracts, with domestic and international customers, suppliers, and partners.
• Provide timely, practical, and risk‑informed legal advice to internal stakeholders, supporting commercial objectives and delivering solution‑oriented guidance.
• Identify legal risks and develop mitigation strategies while aligning with business goals.
• Lead internal governance processes, reviewing and approving commercial transactions in line with company policies.
• Stay current on relevant legal developments, deliver updates, and conduct training for internal clients as needed.
• Supervise external counsel and collaborate with cross‑functional legal teams such as Contracts, IP, and Compliance.
• Operate effectively in a highly international, dynamic environment, demonstrating agility and responsiveness.

Required profile

• Qualified attorney with at least 5 years of experience in commercial and business law, gained in‑house, at a law firm, or both.
• In‑house experience with a major international company is preferred.
• Admission to practice law in a European country (e.g., Spain) is required.
• Proven ability to work across multiple jurisdictions and cultures.

Required skills

• Expertise in drafting and negotiating commercial contracts, including familiarity with FIDIC and NEC4 frameworks.
• Strong analytical and risk‑assessment capabilities.
• Experience managing external counsel and coordinating with multidisciplinary legal teams.
