Senior FinOps Engineer - Hosting and Infrastructure

About the role

Roche is looking for a Senior FinOps Engineer within its Hosting and Infrastructure (HI) team in Madrid. The role leads cloud financial management and AI-driven cost optimization, integrating FinOps tools and methodologies to optimize the software delivery process and the digital product lifecycle. It also defines and applies cost models for the AI Factory and acts as a technical mentor to engineers.

Key responsibilities

• Evaluate and integrate new FinOps tools and methodologies (e.g., Cloudability, Apptio) to improve cost-effective use of public cloud services.
• Define and implement financial models for the AI Factory, balancing high-performance AI workloads with cost rationalization.
• Drive medium to large initiatives to close gaps in cloud financial models and bring in external best practices.
• Manage governance activities such as monthly accruals, forecasting consumption and implementing cloud savings plans on AWS, Azure and GCP.
• Negotiate with vendors and internal customers and share knowledge at international events and with Centers of Excellence.
• Design cloud financial reporting systems and automated cost monitoring scripts, and mentor colleagues on FinOps practices.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Finance or equivalent work experience.
• Experience managing large workloads across serverless, Kubernetes and AI/ML infrastructure, and a track record in cloud finance control, budgeting and cost efficiency.
• Leadership experience leading strategic initiatives and coaching engineers and finance colleagues.
• Strong English; Spanish or German is a plus.
• One or more public cloud or FinOps certifications (e.g., FinOps Certified Practitioner) highly desired.

Required skills

• Advanced knowledge of AWS, Azure and GCP pricing models.
• At least one programming language (Python, Go or JavaScript) and experience building APIs/UIs for financial automation.
• Cloud cost analysis tools (e.g., Cloudability) and ServiceNow CMDB.
• Terraform, CDK or CloudFormation for infrastructure as code.
