Senior Software Engineer – Advertising & Matching Platform

About the role

As a Senior Software Engineer you will help build Checkatrade’s advertising business and matching APIs, driving revenue and engagement across the UK home‑improvement marketplace.

Key responsibilities

• Ship production services that directly impact revenue, from design through deployment and monitoring.
• Own the commercial surface and matching logic, ensuring observability, correctness and low latency.
• Develop and improve coding agents, repo context, and tooling to accelerate the whole company.
• Review pull requests, share technical knowledge and enforce high‑quality standards.
• Collaborate closely with Product and Commercial teams to translate revenue goals into technical plans.

Required profile

• Several years of experience shipping backend services end‑to‑end, preferably using TypeScript/Node.
• Strong data and API instincts, comfortable with asynchronous systems such as queues, events and scheduled jobs.
• Track record of building highly correct systems where bugs can affect financial outcomes.
• Confidence working with Docker, Kubernetes and CI/CD pipelines, and embedding observability from day one.
• Familiarity with AI‑assisted coding tools (Claude, Cursor, Copilot) and a bias for rapid delivery.
