Senior Software Engineer – Backend (Barcelona)

About the role

Monzo is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join its Barcelona team. As a backend engineer you will collaborate within a multidisciplinary squad to build and maintain core banking services that power millions of customers.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and ship backend features for Monzo’s banking platform.
• Work closely with product managers, designers, data analysts and other engineers to deliver end‑to‑end solutions.
• Participate in code reviews, testing, and continuous improvement of the codebase.
• Contribute to the reliability, scalability and security of the platform.
• Help shape technical direction within your squad and across collectives.

Required profile

• Strong experience building backend systems in a fast‑moving environment.
• Ability to work effectively in cross‑functional squads.
• Passion for learning new technologies and solving complex problems.
• Self‑motivated, collaborative and comfortable with ambiguous requirements.
