Senior Software Engineer, Backend (Card)

About the role

Affirm is looking for a Senior Software Engineer, Backend (Card) to join its team in Spain. The company works directly with card issuers to create new types of cards with transparent terms, and the role covers fast in-the-moment transaction processing as well as post-transaction ledgering and reconciliation. The position is remote in Spain, and visa sponsorship is available.

Key responsibilities

• Own and deliver quarterly goals for the team, guide engineers through ambiguity and support everyone throughout delivery.
• Work with product management, design and analytics on ideation, technical constraints and risk-aware decisions.
• Proactively identify project, process, technology or business issues and lead their resolution.
• Create and monitor metrics, escalate when needed and support on-call and "keep the lights on" work.
• Set or improve code review and design standards, share knowledge through writing and tech talks, and mentor team members.

Required profile

• Total of 4+ years of experience as a software engineer.
• Experience shipping front-end applications.
• Ability to define a technical plan for a significant feature or system component with an elegant, simple and extensible design.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills for collaboration with a global engineering team.
• On-call rotation is required for the role.

Required skills

• Backend systems at scale with Python, Kotlin, AWS, MySQL and Kubernetes.
• Comfortable making significant changes in a large codebase safely, with a suite of tools and practices.
