Staff AI and Automation Engineer (Workday)

About the role

The Staff Integrations and AI Engineer (Workday) is the technical lead for integrations across DDN's Workday Finance and HCM ecosystems. The role partners with HR, talent acquisition and Finance stakeholders, as well as the HCM and Finance Systems and enterprise technology teams, to design, build, support and evolve secure, scalable integrations and automations, including AI-enabled workflows.

Key responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end design, development, testing, deployment and support of Workday HCM integrations with internal systems, vendors and enterprise platforms.
• Partner with HR, TA and Finance stakeholders to turn business needs into clear technical designs and data flows.
• Build integrations using Workday Studio, EIBs, connectors, reports-as-a-service, web services, Workday Orchestration for Integrations and document transformations.
• Develop integrations and automations using REST and SOAP APIs, JSON, XML, XSLT and GraphQL.
• Use iPaaS platforms such as Workato to orchestrate workflows across Workday and adjacent systems.
• Advise on the best integration approach (Connector/Native, iPaaS, Studio, Orchestration for Integrations, Google Cloud Functions) per use case.
• Design API-based automations that responsibly include AI capabilities with strong security and operational controls.
• Own troubleshooting, monitoring, root-cause analysis and production support, and improve resiliency, observability and documentation.
• Maintain technical specifications, field mappings, test plans, deployment runbooks and integration documentation.
• Take part in Workday release-impact analysis and testing.

Required profile

• 5+ years of hands-on Workday integration development, focused on Workday HCM or Financials.
• Demonstrated experience leading integration work from requirements through deployment and post-production support.
• Strong practical expertise with Workday Studio, EIBs, web services, Core Connectors, custom reports, Integration Security Groups and document transformations.
• Solid understanding of Workday HCM or Finance business processes and data domains (Core Financials, Core HCM, staffing, compensation, time, absence, payroll, procurement, suppliers, customers, banking).
• Ability to explain technical concepts, data trade-offs and delivery risks to business and technical partners.
• Comfortable working in a global, fast-paced environment with concurrent initiatives.

Required skills

• XSLT, XML, JSON, REST and SOAP APIs and API-based integration patterns.
• iPaaS technologies, preferably Workato.
• Nice to have: AI-enabled workflow automation, Workday Orchestration for Integrations, Workday Extend, Workday Security, BIRT, automated integration testing, global HCM/finance environments, and current or prior Workday Integration or Studio certification.
