Thermo-Mechanical Design Engineer

About the role

Airbus CRISA (Airbus Defence & Space) in Tres Cantos, near Madrid, is hiring a Thermo-Mechanical Design Engineer for flight unit assemblies across its Space businesses: Launchers, Earth Observation (Copernicus), Space Exploration (Artemis) and Commercial (telecom satellites). The engineer joins the Thermo-Mechanical Design team, reports to the Team Leader and works within a project, reporting daily to the Project Manager. The role covers the full development of an electronic flight unit, from requirement analysis to delivery of the flight model.

Key responsibilities

• Analyse project requirements with the Technical Manager or Project Physical Design Responsible.
• Design the mechanical and thermal architecture of modules and units, ensuring robustness across mission scenarios (mechanical loads, temperature range, radiation shielding).
• Document the design and analysis.
• Support project reviews (Requirement, Preliminary and Architecture, Critical Design Reviews).
• Support the test team in accepting flight equipment and monitor changes during characterisation.
• Help resolve non-conformances raised during qualification or acceptance tests.

Required profile

• Engineering Master's degree.
• English at C1 level and Spanish.
• Preferred: five years of experience in thermodynamics and mechanical design, knowledge of space environment constraints, familiarity with Agile methodologies, fast prototyping hardware techniques, and willingness to learn and teach others.

Required skills

• Thermodynamics and heat transfer analysis.
• Mechanical analysis: static and dynamic, sinusoidal or random vibration, shock transient (Shock Response Spectrum).
• Finite element tools: Hypermesh, Femap, Nastran NX.
• Recommended: analytical thinking, problem solving, automation and scripting (Python, TCL, Bash, C/C++), and digital design tools and simulators.
