AML Transaction Monitoring Specialist (100%)

About the role

Julius Baer is looking for a Subject Matter Expert for its AML (Anti-Money Laundering) function in Madrid. You will act as a 100% dedicated specialist reviewing unusual client transactions, assessing their economic background against the client's KYC profile and taking compliance action and risk-mitigating measures.

Key responsibilities

• Review and document client relationships, take compliance actions and implement risk mitigating and remediation measures
• Perform ad-hoc investigations and enhanced due diligence on defined risk categories and complex cases, and employee-related reviews proposing mitigating measures and sanctions with HR and the business
• Carry out comprehensive background checks, assess sources of information critically and escalate issues while monitoring mitigation measures
• Collaborate with partners across the three lines of defence (front, compliance, internal audit) and with domestic and foreign group affiliates
• Provide training and training materials on compliance topics
• Develop and implement solutions supporting continuous improvement of processes, procedures and services
• Own fraud prevention and detection and the internal and external Fraud Risk Type Framework (employee coverage)
• Independently review unusual transactions flagged by the IT-based AML monitoring system, check adverse information and corroborating documents, and support Relationship Managers in implementing compliance issues
• Review client onboarding, including KYC, client storyline, flow of funds and CDB, and follow up on outstanding onboarding issues

Required profile

• Several years of expert experience in Legal and Compliance or Audit at a globally operating bank
• University degree (Law or Business Administration) or equivalent
• Working knowledge of global AML and CFT regulations and current money laundering schemes
• Strong analytical skills, good judgment and discretion, and ability to solve complex problems under pressure
