Assistant Chief Engineer

About the role

The Hoxton Poblenou, an 11th Hoxton hotel in Barcelona with 240 bedrooms, a restaurant, rooftop pool and events space, is looking for an Assistant Chief Engineer to join its Engineering team from November 2026. Reporting to the Chief Engineer, you will support the day-to-day management of housekeeping, maintenance and front office operations.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the Chief Engineer in managing the hotel's facilities, equipment and technical systems to the highest standards.
• Supervise, coordinate and support the Engineering team, allocating daily tasks and monitoring performance so maintenance is completed efficiently and on time.
• Implement and follow up the Preventive Planned Maintenance (PPM) programme through regular inspections and timely corrective actions.
• Monitor maintenance costs, budgets, stock levels and purchasing, keeping resources efficient and within budget.
• Coordinate and supervise external contractors and suppliers, ensuring safe and efficient work to hotel standards.
• Ensure compliance with Health & Safety and Fire Safety regulations, including risk assessments, safety inspections and scheduled testing of fire protection equipment.
• Oversee maintenance and repair works such as plumbing, electrical systems, lighting, furniture and general building maintenance.
• Maintain accurate maintenance requests, equipment records, technical documentation and inventory controls.
• Identify maintenance issues and improvement opportunities, and deputise for the Chief Engineer and cover Shift Engineer duties when needed.
