Baselga Cancer Research Scholar (2027 Cohort)

About the role

AstraZeneca's Baselga Cancer Research Scholars Programme is a 2-year immersive education and research programme for early-career oncologists, launched in 2020. Selected scholars join an accelerated development track in Oncology R&D with individualised mentorship and access to experts across the drug development continuum. The 2027 cohort starts in summer-autumn 2027.

Key responsibilities

• Clinical study assignment: join a clinical study team as a medical leader, working in Early Clinical Development, Late Clinical Development or one year of each, taking part in weekly clinical and scientific meetings, training programmes and internal and external scientific meetings.
• Possible duties include acting as medical director for patient safety and trial conduct, establishing and approving clinical protocols and data collection systems, designing clinical development plans, collaborating with pre-clinical and translational scientists, selecting and managing CROs, supervising project team members and planning investigator meetings and advisory boards.
• Rotational programme: 3-6 month rotations across groups such as patient safety, clinical operations, regulatory affairs, biostatistics, medical affairs and translational or precision medicine.
• Longitudinal research project: lead a research project of your choice over the 2 years, using internal datasets, presenting it internally and publishing it in a peer-reviewed journal.

Required profile

• MD or equivalent; board certification (or eligibility) in Oncology or Haematology/Oncology preferred.
• Experience in molecular oncology and/or translational science highly desirable.
• Medical specialty and sub-specialty training and board certification.
