Commercial Property Underwriter

About the role

AIG Europe S.A., the Spain branch of American International Group, is hiring a Commercial Property Underwriter for its General Insurance business. The role contributes to the strategic development of the multinational portfolio and works within agreed underwriting guidelines.

Key responsibilities

• Contribute to the strategic development of the multinational portfolio.
• Develop and lead broker relationships, building accretive pipelines and cross-selling opportunities across the AIG network.
• Work cross-functionally with other AIG areas to achieve corporate objectives.
• Work within agreed decision-making standards, limitations, authorities and underwriting guidelines.
• Collaborate in a team environment, including the development and training of junior staff.
• Achieve satisfactory ratings on all underwriting quality reviews and maintain corporate service standards with brokers and internal colleagues.
• Prioritize workload and use own initiative internally and externally.
• Maintain and develop strong broker and client relationships.
• Support continuous improvement, including more efficient processes, and identify client-focused products and strategies.
• Lead client and broker negotiations.

Required profile

• Engineering degree or equivalent preferred.
• Property underwriting experience and strong technical insurance knowledge, with a focus on the international market.
• Terrorism underwriting experience is an advantage.
• Experience in multinational environments and knowledge of local markets and regulations is advantageous.
• Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills, including presenting to all levels of stakeholders such as claims and distribution teams.
• Understanding of legal and regulatory requirements.
• Fluent in English, written and spoken.
• Primarily in-office work, as AIG values in-person collaboration.

Required skills

• Highly numerate.
• Competent in IT packages.
• Good organizational skills and proven ability to prioritize workload.
