Data Engineer – Data Ingestion and Enrichment

About the role

Preply is looking for a Data Engineer to join its Data Ingestion and Enrichment team. You will help build the trusted data foundation that powers analytics, machine‑learning and product features across the company’s global learning platform.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain components of Preply’s data lake, ensuring clear ownership, schemas and quality expectations for every dataset.
• Build reliable batch and streaming ingestion pipelines that support real‑time and analytical use cases, balancing performance, cost and reliability.
• Define and enforce data contracts, implementing early validation, anomaly detection and quality checks to prevent issues from propagating downstream.
• Create enrichment logic that joins, standardises and contextualises data across domains, delivering production‑ready, observable and reusable data products.
• Collaborate closely with ML Platform, data scientists, analytics engineers and product squads to align data assets with business needs.

Required profile

• Strong experience building and operating data ingestion pipelines in both batch and streaming environments.
• Solid understanding of data lake architecture, data governance and data quality best practices.
• Ability to work cross‑functionally with engineering, data science and product teams.
• Proactive attitude toward reliability, observability and scalability of data systems.

Required skills

• Experience with data lake technologies and data‑as‑a‑product concepts.
• Hands‑on experience building ETL/ELT pipelines (batch and streaming).
• Knowledge of data contracts, schema management and validation frameworks.
• Familiarity with cloud‑based data platforms and orchestration tools.
