Data Engineer III

About the role

Expedia Group's B2B organization builds technology and data solutions for its business partners. As a Data Engineer III, you will apply advanced data engineering principles to improve existing systems, lead complex projects, mentor junior engineers and develop highly available solutions for processing large datasets.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, test and maintain batch and real-time data pipelines, including complex or non-routine software.
• Build and operate distributed systems for data extraction, ingestion, processing, movement, storage and access.
• Develop software in languages such as Java, Python, Scala and Spark, applying object-oriented design, data structures and algorithms.
• Apply data modeling, schema design, validation, testing, monitoring, alerting and performance tuning.
• Monitor, troubleshoot and debug production issues within service-level agreements, and lead code reviews.
• Mentor junior engineers, coordinate with stakeholders and suggest improvements to policies and processes.

Required profile

• 6+ years of relevant experience with a bachelor's degree, or 3+ years with a master's degree or equivalent professional experience.
• Experience building and maintaining more than one production data pipeline or data product.
• Hands-on experience with large volumes of data and at least one cloud technology and its data offerings.
• Ability to design moderately complex systems, mentor others and communicate effectively.

Required skills

• Proficiency in at least three data-relevant languages (Java, Python, Scala, Spark).
• Understanding of databases, data structures, algorithms, object-oriented design, data modeling and debugging.

• Pay range in Madrid of 55,500 to 78,000 EUR, with potential to reach 89,000 EUR based on sustained performance.
