EAL Specialist (Primary)

About the role

The British School of Barcelona (BSB), part of Cognita, is looking for an experienced EAL Specialist to join its Primary team in Sitges. The post is permanent and part-time, and supports pupils for whom English is an additional language so they can access the curriculum and take part fully in school life.

Key responsibilities

• Assess, plan and deliver targeted English language support to pupils who need extra help accessing the mainstream curriculum.
• Work closely with class teachers, Learning Support Assistants, the Deputy Headteacher and the Headteacher.
• Support families and ensure pupils make rapid, sustained progress and move successfully into the mainstream classroom.
• Contribute to assessment and planning by helping monitor, record and report pupil performance and progress.

Required profile

• Advanced English.
• EAL qualification.
• At least two years of relevant EAL teaching experience is desirable.
• Experience in an international or British school environment is an advantage.

• Understanding of how young children best learn.
• Ability to deliver high-quality, tailored EAL support.
• Sensitive communication with pupils and ability to adapt teaching to individual needs.
• Good interpersonal skills and teamwork.
• Commitment to ongoing professional development.
