Fraud Operations Manager

About the role

As the Fraud Operations Manager you will lead Preply’s Fraud Operations team, shaping strategy, overseeing day‑to‑day operations and developing talent. You will act as the primary authority on fraud risk, partnering with Product, Payments and Finance to protect the marketplace’s financial integrity.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, coach and grow a team of Fraud Specialists, establishing a high‑judgement, accountable culture.
• Own the Fraud Operations roadmap, aligning priorities with broader business goals.
• Design investigation standards, workflows, escalation protocols and documentation frameworks.
• Define, track and improve KPIs such as chargeback rate, dispute‑resolution SLA, false‑positive rate and financial exposure.
• Provide governance through risk and exposure reviews with senior leadership.
• Translate operational observations into actionable product and data requirements.
• Partner with Product, Payments and Finance as the chief fraud authority.
• Present performance, risk insights and strategic recommendations to senior leadership.

Required profile

• 6‑8+ years in fraud operations, payments risk or financial crime, with proven people‑management experience.
• Demonstrated success leading fraud or risk functions in a marketplace, fintech or e‑commerce environment.
• Strong ability to turn operational data into strategic decisions and priorities.
• Experience designing scalable processes and governance frameworks.

Required skills

• SQL and BI tools (e.g., Looker, Tableau).
• Familiarity with ML‑based fraud detection and feedback‑loop workflows.
• Experience with fraud detection platforms such as Sardine, Sift, Feedzai or Kount.
• Ability to interpret AI/ML model outputs and collaborate with technical teams.
