Geospatial Earth Observation Analytics Internship

About the role

The United Nations Global Service Centre (UNGSC) is seeking a motivated intern to join the Analytics and Location Intelligence Unit (ALIU) in Valencia, Spain. You will support the development of geospatial analytics and Earth Observation solutions that enhance situational awareness and decision‑making across UN missions.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in building analytical pipelines using open‑source night‑time light satellite data for border monitoring and trigger high‑resolution imagery analysis.
• Support remote sensing tasks such as change detection, time‑series analysis, and monitoring using multi‑sensor Earth Observation datasets.
• Collect and integrate open‑source information, extracting geospatial indicators from remote sensing products.
• Conduct data validation, documentation, and research on emerging technologies, including AI, to ensure high‑quality outputs.
• Coordinate with other UN units to integrate datasets and visualisations into UN Maps and related services.

Required profile

• Enrolled in or recently completed a graduate programme (master’s level or equivalent) in a relevant field such as geography, environmental science, remote sensing, or data science.
• Strong analytical mindset with interest in geospatial information and satellite data.
• Ability to work under supervision and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
