Go Software Engineer - Cloud

About the role

Abbott's Technology Hub in Barcelona is hiring a Go Software Engineer to build scalable, highly available, efficient and secure cloud solutions for a medical device SaaS. The engineer works on a modern tech stack on a Software as a Service cloud platform, using internal and external APIs to serve users in over 25 countries who process billions of messages daily. The role sits within the ADC Diabetes Care division.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement services and components using Go for cloud-based platforms.
• Collaborate with internal and external partners to develop and integrate APIs that let users share and use their medical data in partner systems.
• Write unit-testable, highly maintainable code and collaborate with InfoSec on secure solutions.
• Ensure performance, uptime and scale while keeping high code quality and thoughtful design.
• Contribute to architectural and operational decisions with the Architecture team, and build internal tooling and APIs.
• Create diagrams, flowcharts and models of component design and workflow.
• Take part in technical planning, design and code reviews, and deliver features through an agile team.
• Stay current with emerging trends and recommend improvements.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or another relevant field.
• Software development experience, ideally in Go, and a willingness to learn new languages.
• Strong computer science fundamentals and experience with software development.
• Comfortable working asynchronously with a distributed team.

Required skills

• Object-oriented programming and modular, unit-testable code.
• Asynchronous messaging and backend processing jobs.
• Docker containers and orchestration services such as Docker Swarm, ECS and Kubernetes.
• Git for source control.
• Preferred: RESTful APIs and microservices, TDD, relational databases (SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL), Linux and agile environments.
