Head of Accounting

About the role

ING is seeking a Head of Accounting to lead its accounting function within the banking division. The role combines deep technical accounting expertise with experience in large‑scale systems integration, supporting the bank’s digital transformation and ensuring robust financial governance.

Key responsibilities

• Lead monthly, quarterly and annual closing processes in line with IFRS and local regulations.
• Oversee the general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets, treasury accounting, provisions and reconciliations.
• Supervise preparation of financial statements and regulatory reports, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
• Maintain strong internal controls, act as primary contact for internal and external auditors, and implement audit recommendations.
• Drive system integration projects, including ERP upgrades, data migration, process harmonisation and connections to core banking platforms.
• Partner with IT and business teams to map accounting flows, validate data integrity and automate reporting.
• Manage, mentor and develop the accounting team, fostering a culture of accuracy and continuous improvement.
• Collaborate with Finance, Risk, Treasury, Operations and Technology to provide financial insights for strategic decisions.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
• 7–10 years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership roles.
• Strong background in banking or financial services.
• Proven track record in systems integration or ERP implementation projects.

Required skills

• IFRS and banking‑related accounting standards.
• Financial systems such as SAP, Oracle or similar.
• Core banking platforms.
• ERP implementation, data migration and integration tools.
