Java Software Engineer – Railway Signalling

About the role

Siemens Mobility is seeking a Java Software Engineer to join its Railway Signalling R&D team. You will work on generic, world‑wide signalling products, collaborating with international colleagues to design, develop and deliver high‑quality control‑system software.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement and modify Java applications using JMS messaging and PostgreSQL.
• Participate in the full software lifecycle: bidding, specification, design, development, testing, and delivery.
• Conduct software verification, create test specifications and manage requirements traceability.
• Collaborate within a multidisciplinary, international development team.
• Research and prototype new technologies for railway signalling products.

Required profile

• Degree in Computer Science, Telecommunications, Industrial Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in research‑oriented software projects.
• Experience with applications for Railway Signalling Control Centres is a plus.

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of Java (or C++) programming.
• Experience with Java messaging (JMS) and relational databases, especially PostgreSQL.
• Familiarity with configuration management tools such as Subversion or Synergy.
• Proficiency with CI/CD tools (Jenkins, SonarQube) and automated testing.
• Use of requirements and traceability tools (Doors, Confluence).
• Knowledge of cloud and container technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Understanding of SIL2 development standards (CENELEC 50128).
• Agile (Scrum) methodology experience and tools (Jira, Gitlab, RTC).
• Basic IT‑security concepts: vulnerability testing, cryptography, authentication, access control.
