Lead Engineer - Power Systems / Substations (Tendering Advisor)

About the role

Hitachi Energy Spain is looking for a Lead Engineer - Power Systems / Substations (Tendering Advisor) in Madrid. As a technical authority and senior advisor, you will lead engineering activities for complex projects and support the bid and sales organization with expert engineering judgement on complex substation and power system tenders.

Key responsibilities

• Act as technical responsible and advisor for complex tenders, giving technical guidance to the tender organization on feasibility, robustness and competitiveness.
• Own the technical definition of complex offers and serve as reference point for high-risk or high-complexity bids.
• Interface with factories and suppliers, validating technical requirements and challenging specifications when needed.
• Evaluate supplier proposals technically, ensure compliance with requirements and support negotiations to optimise cost and value.
• Advise on power system solutions, including substation systems, control and protection, power quality and grid integration.
• Identify technical risks and opportunities in complex offers and support mitigation strategies during the tender phase.
• Support sales and tender managers in customer technical discussions and clarifications, aligning customer requirements with internal standards and supplier capabilities.

Required profile

• Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• Minimum 8 years of experience as a senior engineer or technical expert in power systems, substations or grid integration projects.
• Proven experience acting as technical advisor or authority for complex projects or tenders.
• Solid exposure to supplier and factory technical management, including technical validation and cost-driven discussions.
• Experience in complex, multidisciplinary and high-value offers.
• High level of autonomy, credibility and professional seniority to influence decisions.
• Strong stakeholder management skills across sales, engineering, supply chain and suppliers.

Required skills

• Deep knowledge of substation systems, control and protection systems, power systems and power quality.
• Comfortable working in an advisory, validation and optimization role.
