M&A Associate – Energy

About the role

Santander Corporate & Investment Banking is seeking an M&A Associate focused on the Energy sector. Based in the Luca de Tena office in Madrid, you will support complex transactions and help shape the bank’s energy‑focused advisory services.

Key responsibilities

• Own day‑to‑day execution workstreams across M&A and equity‑led processes, coordinating timelines and stakeholders.
• Lead, review and steer complex financial models and valuation analyses, including operating models, DCFs, merger accretion/dilution and sensitivity testing.
• Conduct valuation work using DCF, trading comparables, precedent transactions and sector‑specific approaches, translating results into clear client messaging.
• Draft, structure and quality‑control senior‑level client materials such as pitch books, strategic reviews, management presentations and board documents.
• Manage due‑diligence workstreams and advisor interaction, maintaining process discipline and anticipating issues.
• Support senior bankers in client dialogue, origination angles and negotiation readiness.
• Develop and share insights on EMEA energy and energy‑transition dynamics, including regulation, capital flows and investor behaviour.
• Mentor analysts and interns, setting execution standards and ensuring high‑quality deliverables under pressure.

Required profile

• Proactive approach to risk management and strong analytical mindset.
• Experience or strong interest in M&A transactions within the energy sector.
• Ability to work collaboratively with internal teams and external advisors.
• Excellent communication skills for client interaction and material preparation.
