Mechanical Engineer – Design for Optomechanical Systems

About the role

We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer (Design) to support our client Fusion for Energy in Barcelona. The role involves designing, analysing and documenting mechanical components and systems for a complex optomechanical platform operating in vacuum and radiation environments.

Key responsibilities

• Support internal and outsourced activities for a complex optomechanical system installed in vacuum and radiation conditions.
• Collaborate with suppliers, taking ownership of technical uncertainties and conducting internal studies to aid decision‑making.
• Ensure seamless transition from final design to production of a full‑scale prototype, maintaining continuity across design, procurement and testing phases.
• Define technical requirements and system specifications for optical and mechanical components.
• Follow up system design, manufacturing and testing performed by external suppliers.
• Produce and assess built‑to‑print documentation.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in industrial, mechanical, electrical, aerospace, optical, metrology or nuclear engineering (or equivalent).
• Minimum 8 years of experience in design or manufacturing of optical, vacuum or moving mechanical systems.
• Proven experience defining technical requirements and system specifications.
• Experience managing supplier activities and reviewing built‑to‑print documentation.
• Eligibility to live and work in the EU.
• Fluent in English, both written and spoken.
