Mid-Level Backend Engineer – Data Pipelines

About the role

We are seeking a mid‑level Backend Engineer to design, build and optimise data pipelines and backend services for a fast‑growing startup in Barcelona. The role focuses on delivering clean, reliable data across the organisation while working in a collaborative, hybrid environment.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain scalable ETL/ELT pipelines that ingest, transform and load data from multiple sources.
• Write clean, efficient Python code with an emphasis on performance, memory usage and maintainability.
• Collaborate on SQL and NoSQL database schema design and optimise query performance for fast data access.
• Implement unit, integration and data‑quality tests to ensure pipeline integrity before production.
• Deploy pipelines using CI/CD practices and containerisation tools such as Docker, and participate in code reviews.

Required profile

• Strong Python engineering skills with production‑grade code quality.
• Proven experience building and operating ETL/ELT pipelines and large‑scale data ingestion.
• Familiarity with both SQL and NoSQL databases, including schema design and query optimisation.
• Ability to work autonomously from requirement definition to production deployment.
• Professional proficiency in English and Spanish.
