Principal Applied Scientist

About the role

As a Principal Applied Scientist at Bluetile, you will bridge rigorous scientific research with production impact, turning hypotheses into scalable models that drive user behavior, ad monetization, and real‑time decisioning. You will own end‑to‑end problems, from causal inference to probabilistic modeling, and work closely with engineering to ship stable services.

Key responsibilities

• Frame ambiguous business problems as scientific questions, design and analyze controlled experiments with statistical rigor.
• Build probabilistic models for user behavior, lifetime‑value prediction, and ad response, applying causal inference to observational data.
• Partner with engineering to create real‑time decisioning APIs, implement monitoring, and ship models as reliable services.
• Define success metrics, develop experimentation infrastructure, and translate results into business decisions.
• Mentor data scientists, establish model evaluation standards, and communicate complex concepts to diverse stakeholders.

Required profile

• PhD or MSc in a quantitative field (Computer Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Physics, Operations Research, etc.).
• 7+ years of data‑science experience, including at least 2 years owning production ML systems.
• Expert‑level Python and SQL skills with production‑quality code.
• Deep understanding of probability theory, statistical inference, and mathematical optimization.
• Strong expertise in experimental design, hypothesis testing, power analysis, and multiple‑testing corrections.
