Principal Engineer - Bridges & Structures

About the role

AECOM is hiring a Principal Engineer with experience in bridges and/or structures design to join its Enterprise Capabilities, Europe team in Madrid. The Bridges and Structures team delivers structural bridge engineering designs across the Americas, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Latin America and the Middle East, and the role involves all phases of project development, from feasibility studies to detailed design, within large multidisciplinary teams serving public and private clients.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as lead engineer on mid-size bridge (rail/road) or structures projects supported by Enterprise Capabilities.
• Make day-to-day technical decisions and integrate resources from different EC offices (Spain, Poland, India, etc.).
• Provide technical expertise for studies and design, run medium-complexity value engineering evaluations and define alternative designs, materials and construction techniques.
• Categorize work packages, prepare project execution plans and define delivery strategies and design team composition with internal clients.
• Perform quality control reviews, approve and sign off work, and hold the team accountable for results and budget.
• Communicate clearly with internal clients and team members, and train, mentor and evaluate less experienced staff.

Required profile

• Proven track record in bridges and/or structures design and collaboration with international, multicultural teams (8+ years).
• Master's degree in Civil Engineering from a recognized university.
• Professional fluency in English (essential); Spanish is a plus.
• Experience with international regulations and standards such as AASHTO, AREMA, Aus-Codes and BS.
• Team management experience; experience in North America or Australia is considered favorable.

Required skills

• Engineering calculation software for bridges and structures (Midas Civil preferred, CSi Bridge also considered).
• Commitment to quality control policy and quality management systems.
