Researcher in Computational Linguistics & NLP for the Humanities

About the role

The Barcelona Supercomputing Center is seeking a researcher to advance computational linguistics and natural language processing (NLP) methods for humanities and social‑science research. You will work at the intersection of AI, high‑performance computing (HPC) and large‑scale data to support interdisciplinary projects that address societal challenges.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement NLP pipelines and computational linguistics models for diverse humanities datasets.
• Apply advanced AI/ML techniques, including Large Language Models, Agent‑Based Modeling and Social Network Analysis, on exascale supercomputing resources.
• Collaborate with social scientists, historians, archaeologists and other domain experts to translate research questions into computational solutions.
• Manage and process large‑scale data sources such as official statistics, surveys, social‑media streams, news archives and historical documents.
• Publish research findings in high‑impact venues and contribute to open‑source tools.

Required profile

• PhD or equivalent research experience in computational linguistics, NLP, AI or a related field.
• Strong track record of interdisciplinary research, preferably with social‑science or humanities applications.
• Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion in research environments.
