Robotics Applications Engineer

About the role

ABB is hiring an experienced Robotic Applications Engineer for its Sevensense by ABB unit, within the Robotic Systems team. The role links product development with real-world deployments of the technology and reports to the R&D Team Lead. The team is based in Sant Quirze del Vallès (Barcelona) and Zurich, Switzerland, and works with ABB Robotics project and support teams and internal R&D teams. The position is hybrid (#LI-hybrid).

Key responsibilities

• Provide expert technical guidance and troubleshooting support to project and support teams during integration, commissioning and operation of deployed systems.
• Investigate complex field issues, perform root-cause analysis and collaborate with R&D teams to deliver scalable solutions.
• Develop tools, processes and software adaptations that improve diagnostics, product integration and support efficiency.
• Collect and analyse field feedback to identify product gaps and shape future product development.
• Work hands-on with robotic platforms to develop and validate new features, reproduce field issues and verify fixes.

Required profile

• 3+ years of industrial experience in robotics, autonomous systems, systems engineering, applications engineering, technical support engineering or related fields.
• Proven ability to investigate complex technical issues and drive them to resolution across multidisciplinary teams.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills across engineering, project, support and customer-facing teams.
• Willingness to travel occasionally to customer sites.
• Fluent English, spoken and written.

Required skills

• Python software engineering and debugging, troubleshooting complex software systems.
• Linux-based systems and networking fundamentals.
• Familiarity with robotics concepts such as localization, mapping, navigation, perception or AMRs.
• Experience with ROS/ROS2.
