School Cleaner

About the role

The British School of Málaga is looking for a School Cleaner. The role covers daily cleaning, restroom maintenance, surface disinfection and occasional deep cleaning, keeping the school facilities tidy and hygienic.

Key responsibilities

• Sweep, mop, vacuum and polish floors; dust and wipe down surfaces, furniture, windowsills and fixtures.
• Empty and sanitize waste bins and replace liners.
• Clean and disinfect toilets, sinks and restroom fixtures, and replenish toilet paper, soap and paper towels.
• Sanitize high-touch surfaces such as door handles, light switches and handrails.
• Perform scheduled deep cleaning (carpets, windows, floor stripping and waxing) and handle spills promptly and safely.
• Use cleaning equipment correctly, report faults and keep supplies stocked.
• Handle cleaning chemicals and hazardous materials safely, wear PPE and follow health and safety procedures.
• Keep storage areas neat, report maintenance issues to the supervisor and follow daily task lists or supervisor instructions.

Required profile

• No formal education required; basic literacy and numeracy are helpful.
• Previous cleaning or janitorial experience is preferred, especially in schools, childcare or similar settings.
• Reliable, punctual and able to work with school staff and other cleaners.

Required skills

• Attention to detail and ability to clean thoroughly without missing areas.
• Time management to finish tasks within set timeframes, especially during breaks or after school hours.
• Knowledge of cleaning techniques, disinfection procedures and spill handling.
• Safe use of vacuums, floor scrubbers, mops and other cleaning tools.
