Senior Azure FinOps Engineer

About the role

Julius Baer is looking for a Senior Azure FinOps Engineer to join its Cloud Engineering team in Madrid. This is a hands-on engineering role focused on Azure cost optimisation, FinOps engineering, automation and cloud consumption analytics. You will analyse Azure usage and cost data, identify optimisation opportunities and implement technical solutions that make the Azure platform more efficient and transparent.

Key responsibilities

• Analyse Azure consumption and utilisation data and implement cost optimisation across workloads and platform services, including rightsizing, lifecycle optimisation, architectural improvements, reservations, savings plans and licensing optimisation.
• Develop tooling and automation to find idle, underutilised, oversized or misconfigured resources.
• Build automation for cost management, reporting, anomaly detection and governance using PowerShell, Azure CLI, APIs, KQL and Infrastructure as Code.
• Improve dashboards, queries, alerts and cost insights with Azure Cost Management, Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, Azure Resource Graph, Power BI and related tools.
• Develop solutions for tagging, cost allocation, showback and chargeback.
• Work with cloud engineers and architects to optimise compute, storage, databases, networking and AKS costs.
• Support engineering teams with cost estimates and technical financial analysis for new architectures and platform changes.

Required profile

• Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Business Information Systems or a comparable discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
• Strong experience in Azure cost optimisation and FinOps, with proven ability to analyse consumption data and implement sustainable optimisation solutions.
• Experience with enterprise-scale Azure environments; banking, financial services or regulated industries is an advantage.
• Ability to explain technical findings clearly to engineers, architects and non-technical stakeholders.

Required skills

• Azure Cost Management, Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, Azure Resource Graph, KQL or comparable Azure analytics tools.
• Hands-on scripting and automation with PowerShell, Azure CLI, Python, REST APIs or similar.
• Infrastructure as Code, preferably Terraform or Bicep.
• Understanding of Azure purchasing models (Reservations, Savings Plans, licensing, rightsizing).
• CI/CD and enterprise Azure engineering practices; AKS experience is an advantage.
• Azure certifications (AZ-104, AZ-305) and FinOps certifications are desirable.
