Senior Backend Engineer – Driver Onboarding

About the role

We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join our new Driver Onboarding team in Barcelona. You will work within a cross‑functional squad to design and build the end‑to‑end registration and onboarding experience for drivers using the FREENOW platform.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain the driver registration flow and automated document‑validation pipelines.
• Implement high‑scale backend services that integrate Large Language Models (LLMs) and Machine‑Learning models for fast, compliant approvals.
• Collaborate with Operations, Product, Design and other engineering teams to continuously improve automation and workflow efficiency.
• Provide self‑service tools that enable drivers to manage their documentation and account details.
• Monitor, troubleshoot and optimise performance of databases, caches and messaging systems.

Required profile

• Several years of experience building backend systems for high‑traffic consumer platforms.
• Strong problem‑solving mindset and ability to own features from concept through production monitoring.
• Comfort working in a fast‑moving, collaborative environment with cross‑functional teams.

Required skills

• Backend development (API design, service architecture).
• Experience with Large Language Models (LLMs) and Machine‑Learning integration.
• Document‑validation and workflow automation.
• Database access optimisation, caching and messaging technologies.
