Senior Backend Engineer – FinTech (Onsite, Madrid or Malaga)

About the role

We are a global FinTech leader building a brand‑new engineering team in Spain. As a Senior Backend Engineer you will work on high‑impact, technical solutions within a collaborative, distributed environment, based onsite in either Madrid or Malaga.

Key responsibilities

• Take ownership of platform services, delivering new products and automating existing ones.
• Lead projects from conception to delivery, partnering with product and operations teams.
• Mentor less‑experienced colleagues and help raise the overall team effectiveness.
• Maintain and improve legacy systems, addressing technical debt and proposing enhancements.
• Adopt a “you build it, you own it” mindset, ensuring long‑term reliability and maintenance of your solutions.

Required profile

• Extensive experience developing complex systems, preferably with Python and other OOP languages.
• Clear, concise communication in English, both written and verbal.
• Strong ability to design standard APIs, manage services, implement monitoring, and integrate external platforms.
• Confidence working with legacy code and a proactive attitude toward improvements.
• Commitment to high‑quality code supported by unit and integration tests.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins) and infrastructure‑as‑code (Terraform) is a plus.
• Background in Financial Services or FinTech is advantageous.
