Senior Data Engineer - ODS

About the role

We are looking for a Senior Data Engineer to join the Open Digital Services (ODS) team of Santander in Madrid. You will design, build and optimise large‑scale data pipelines that power analytics, machine learning and business decision‑making across our digital banking platform.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and optimise high‑volume data pipelines using Apache Spark (Scala/Spark SQL).
• Build and maintain batch and near‑real‑time processing solutions for complex data environments.
• Create reusable, well‑structured datasets for analytics, data science and machine‑learning teams.
• Work with cloud data platforms, primarily AWS, to process, transform, store and expose data.
• Implement data‑quality, validation, monitoring and documentation practices.
• Collaborate with Data Engineering, Data Science, Architecture and business stakeholders to deliver practical solutions.
• Promote engineering best practices around code quality, testing, version control, CI/CD and automation.

Required profile

• 5+ years of experience in data engineering, big‑data or software engineering.
• Proven experience building production‑grade pipelines in large‑scale or regulated environments (banking/fintech).
• Fluent Spanish and professional English.
