Senior Engineer - T&D Overhead Transmission Lines

About the role

AECOM is looking for an experienced Senior Engineer for its Transmission & Distribution team. The role plays a leading technical part in designing and delivering high-voltage and extra-high-voltage overhead transmission line projects worldwide, supporting the expansion, reinforcement and modernisation of electrical networks linked to the energy transition. It involves route alignment, line design, mechanical and electrical studies and multidisciplinary coordination.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the engineering of HV/EHV overhead lines (typically 110kV to 400kV+), including route alignment, tower spotting, conductor and earth wire selection, insulation coordination and line clearances
• Lead advanced modelling and design with PLS-CADD, and perform and review sag-tension, conductor blowout, thermal ampacity, corona, shielding and lightning studies, load trees and tower loading analyses
• Coordinate with civil teams on tower loading and foundations, and with structural, geotechnical, environmental and power system teams
• Support project managers in planning engineering work, managing technical risks and contributing to technical proposals and fee estimates
• Review drawings, models and calculations, mentor engineers and help develop internal procedures and technical standards
• Support construction activities such as tower erection, foundation works and conductor stringing, and resolve site technical issues

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Civil or Structural Engineering
• Typically 10+ years of experience in overhead transmission line engineering
• Proven experience on HV/EHV projects (110kV - 400kV+) and on projects through feasibility, concept, detailed design and construction support phases
• Strong written and verbal English
• Preferred: experience with PLS-POLE, underground cable projects, CYMCAP, international projects and knowledge of IEC, IEEE, EN and utility standards
