Senior Fire & Risk Engineer

About the role

AECOM Spain Building Services Engineering team is looking for a Senior Fire & Risk Engineer to join its project delivery team and mentor junior staff. The role contributes to the winning, management and delivery of moderate to large-scale projects across industrial, healthcare, education, leisure, aviation, commercial and defense sectors, defining and delivering advanced fire safety solutions across the full building lifecycle.

Key responsibilities

• Design passive measures: compartmentation strategy, fire-resistance-rated assemblies, firestopping systems, penetrations and joints, fire doors and dampers, and façade fire safety, coordinating structural fire protection (e.g. SFRM/intumescent) with elevated-temperature performance objectives.
• Develop egress strategies and life safety plans with occupant loads, travel distances, exit capacity, and performance-based egress modelling where needed.
• Evaluate reaction-to-fire and fire resistance of materials and assemblies (heat release rate, smoke/opacity, toxicity, charring/insulation, thermal degradation) and apply test standards such as EN 13501, ASTM E84/E119 and UL 1709/263, turning results into buildable specifications.
• Lead performance-based designs using computational tools such as CFD for smoke and tenability, structural fire analysis and egress simulation.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Fire Protection Engineering or a closely related discipline (mechanical, chemical, materials or structural engineering with fire specialization).
• Experience delivering multi-disciplinary projects and mentoring junior staff.

Required skills

• Proficiency with international and local codes and standards (NFPA suite, IFC/IBC, EN/BS, FM Global Data Sheets), including performance-based design frameworks and equivalency methodologies.
• Performance-based fire design and use of CFD and egress simulation tools.
