Senior Scientist - Encapsulation and Control Release (Delivery Systems)

About the role

IFF, a global leader in flavors, fragrances, food ingredients and health & biosciences, is looking for a Senior Scientist within its Delivery Systems R&D organization in Benicarlo. You will help develop next-generation fragrance delivery technologies, lead technical workstreams and turn new delivery concepts into scalable, manufacturable solutions. The role suits someone who can lead complex technical programs, influence cross-functional teams and mentor junior contributors.

Key responsibilities

• Lead technical programs on fragrance delivery, encapsulation, controlled release, formulation and related technologies
• Develop technical approaches, experimental strategies and project plans aligned with business and commercialization goals
• Design and run experiments, interpret data and communicate results to technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Identify new materials, ingredients, process routes and technology platforms with a technical or competitive advantage
• Act as technical lead or functional representative on multidisciplinary project teams, working independently
• Support scale-up, manufacturing readiness and commercialization with Process R&D, Operations, Quality, Regulatory and Commercial functions
• Produce technical documentation, invention disclosures, patent-support materials, reports and presentations
• Mentor junior scientists, engineers and technicians
• Contribute to technology scouting, open innovation and partner assessments, and uphold quality, EHS and documentation compliance

Required profile

• PhD in Chemistry, Polymer Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Colloid Science, Physical Chemistry or a closely related field; or MSc with substantial relevant industrial R&D experience
• Ability to lead technical workstreams with limited supervision and to coordinate projects and manage technical complexity
• Strong scientific and technical expertise, with excellent written and oral communication skills
• Ability to work with global, matrixed teams and to influence cross-functional stakeholders
• Commitment to safety, scientific rigor, documentation quality and compliance

• Microencapsulation, fragrance/flavor delivery systems, controlled release technologies and consumer product formulation
• Polymer science, colloid science, interfacial science, material science, physical chemistry or analytical characterization
• Scale-up, manufacturing transfer, process development and commercialization of new technologies
• Invention disclosures, patents, publications, external collaborations and technology scouting
