Senior Software Engineer, Back-end (Repayment Scheduling)

About the role

Affirm's Repayment Scheduling engineering team is growing and is looking for a Senior Software Engineer specializing in backend development. The team is fully located in Europe within the same time zone, builds and owns the payment automation system serving up to $40B annually, and ships new code every two weeks. The role is remote in Spain, with an on-call rotation as a requirement.

Key responsibilities

• Own and deliver quarterly goals for the team, guide engineers through ambiguity and support delivery
• Collaborate with product management, design and analytics on ideation, technical constraints and risk-aware decisions
• Proactively identify and lead the resolution of project, process, technology or business issues
• Create and monitor metrics, escalate when needed and support on-call and "keep the lights on" work
• Set or improve code review and design standards and share them through writing and tech talks
• Develop talent on the team through feedback and guidance

Required profile

• 4+ years of experience designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale
• Track record of building highly available distributed systems
• Experience defining a technical plan for a significant feature or component with an elegant, simple and extensible design
• Ability to make significant changes in a large codebase safely, with a suite of tools and practices
• Takes ownership of growth and seeks feedback from team, manager and stakeholders
• Strong verbal and written communication skills

Required skills

• Backend development in Python or Kotlin
• Distributed systems on AWS, MySQL and Kubernetes
