Software Engineer II, Backend (Card) - Remote Spain

About the role

Affirm's Card team builds high-quality, scalable platforms for its card products, and the Card Checkout team focuses on the in-app checkout experience. As a Software Engineer II on this team, you will help develop and implement complex software systems that give users a seamless checkout, working with product, design and analytics partners. The role is remote in Spain, with an on-call rotation as a requirement.

Key responsibilities

• Break down larger projects into tasks, deliver them in phases and collaborate with colleagues to meet deadlines.
• Work with product management, design and analytics on ideation, technical constraints and risk-informed decisions.
• Create and monitor metrics, escalate issues when needed and support on-call and "keep the lights on" work.
• Take part in team growth activities such as the interview process.

Required profile

• 2+ years of experience as a software engineer.
• Experience designing, developing and launching backend systems.
• Proficiency in Python or Kotlin.
• Familiarity with distributed systems, AWS, MySQL and Kubernetes.
• Comfortable with large code bases, debugging others' code and giving constructive feedback in code reviews.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills for a global team.
• Visa sponsorship available, but the candidate must be based in Spain.
