Senior Tunnel Engineer

About the role

AECOM's Domestic Transportation business line in Spain is hiring a Senior Tunnel Engineer within its Geotechnical discipline. The team delivers ground engineering and tunnelling assessments and designs from concept through detailed development for roads, railways, stations, buildings and high-rise structures. The role suits a senior engineer wanting to lead complex tunnelling projects.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the design and supervision of tunnel projects in rock or soils, including drawings and technical specifications
• Design and oversee underground structures such as cut-and-cover tunnels, shafts and underground stations
• Execute tunnelling support system calculations, prepare specifications and produce detailed engineering drawings
• Coordinate complex technical challenges and guide the team and client
• Analyse geotechnical data for ground characterization, risk assessment and calculations
• Offer technical mentorship to junior engineers
• Lead bid preparation from the tunnelling discipline, covering technical and budgetary aspects
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across different geographies

Required profile

• Master's degree in Civil, Geological or Mining Engineering
• 8-10 years of recent, proven tunnelling engineering experience
• Previous geotechnical experience highly valued
• Fluency in spoken and written Spanish and English
• Solid knowledge of Spanish codes and international standards (AASHTO, ACI, ASTM, Eurocodes, SBC)
• Experience in urban environments and international projects highly valued

Required skills

• Tunnelling methods: TBM, NATM, SCL
• Geotechnical software for tunnel design such as PLAXIS 2D/3D and RS2
• Roc Support
• Strong communication skills and teamwork in diverse environments
