Senior/Principal Engineer - T&D Overhead Lines

About the role

AECOM is looking for a Senior/Principal Engineer within its Transmission & Distribution team, based in Madrid. You will lead and engage with clients on technically challenging Overhead Line (OHL) design projects, supporting the design of transmission projects up to 400kV and taking part in large programmes of work.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical support for overhead line design on complex multi-discipline projects and write proposals, including timeline, resources, budget, objectives and goals.
• Support project implementation, statutory planning and public consultation events.
• Carry out design activities: PLS-CADD modelling, line routing, structural analysis and loading trees, design criteria, sag-tension calculations, insulator/conductor blowout, swing angle, damper systems, structural spotting, clearance reports and conductor/insulator selection.
• Support feasibility studies, conductor thermal ratings and compliance with industry standards and regulations.
• Identify a technically preferred solution or layout for the client and originate and check engineering deliverables such as designs, reports, proposals, presentations and drawing packages.
• Perform internal quality checks of engineering drawings and calculations.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Civil, Structural, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
• Experience delivering projects for transmission system operators such as National Grid, SSE and REE.
• Project experience in overhead line engineering, ideally up to 400kV.
• Chartered or Professional Engineer status (or working towards it) preferred.
• Proven ability to coordinate across disciplines and review detailed technical outputs to a high standard.
