Service Engineer - Substation Automation & SCADA

About the role

HITACHI ENERGY SPAIN is looking for a Senior Commissioning & Service Engineer in Madrid to deliver, commission, troubleshoot and upgrade Substation Automation Systems (SAS) for utilities, transmission operators and industrial customers across Spain. The role combines hands-on field work, technical problem solving and direct customer interaction, using technologies such as MicroSCADA, protection and control systems, communication networks and digital substation solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Perform advanced commissioning, troubleshooting, maintenance, upgrades and repairs on complex systems and equipment.
• Diagnose root causes of technical issues and implement corrective and preventive actions.
• Carry out service work in line with technical standards, quality, health and safety, contractual and regulatory requirements.
• Act as the main technical contact for customers during service and after service, supporting training, briefings and on-site guidance.
• Provide technical input for service quotations, upgrades and retrofit opportunities.
• Coordinate with service coordinators, project managers, engineering and supply chain teams.

Required profile

• Experience in Substation Automation, SCADA, Protection & Control, Power Systems or Industrial Automation.
• Proven experience with complex installations, commissioning, troubleshooting and lifecycle service.
• Customer-facing, independent on-site work with technical responsibility.
• Ability to read electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, functional specifications and technical documentation.
• Native Spanish and at least B2 English; national travel expected, typically 0-20%.
