Staff Software Engineer, Backend (Identity International)

About the role

Affirm is hiring a Staff Software Engineer, Backend for its Identity International team, which covers markets outside North America. Identity is the first step of the customer journey and the foundation of global expansion, and the team builds and expands Identity Data Management, KYC Verification and Decisioning capabilities while driving architectural change. The role is remote in Spain, with an on-call rotation as a requirement.

Key responsibilities

• Set the technical strategy for the team on a year-long horizon and link it to critical, business-impacting projects.
• Collaborate with product management, design and analytics throughout the product development lifecycle.
• Advocate for technical solutions and operational processes, and own the team's operations and availability through monitoring, triage rotations, playbooks, policies, testing and alerting.
• Set code review and design standards, share knowledge through writing and tech talks, and mentor team members.

Required profile

• 8+ years of experience designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale, using Python or Kotlin.
• Experience delivering major features, components or deprecations with a defined technical and execution plan.
• Comfortable working in ambiguity, from low-level language idioms to the architecture of large systems.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills for a global engineering team.

Required skills

• Highly available distributed systems with AWS, MySQL, Spark and Kubernetes.
• Python or Kotlin.
