Software Engineer II, Backend (Furnishing Platform)

About the role

Affirm is looking for a Software Engineer II in its Furnishing Platform team, working remotely from Spain. You will build scalable systems and data pipelines that power consumer credit reporting, partnering with Product, Compliance, Servicing and Credit teams to deliver accurate, timely data from Affirm's financial products to Consumer Reporting Agencies.

Key responsibilities

• Break down larger projects into tasks, deliver them in phases and collaborate with others to meet deadlines.
• Support product development with product management, design and analytics: take part in ideation, state technical constraints and weigh risks and trade-offs.
• Create and monitor metrics, escalate issues when needed and support on-call and "keep the lights on" work.
• Take part in team growth activities such as interviews.
• On-call rotation is a requirement for this role.

Required profile

• Total of 1.5+ years of experience as a software engineer.
• Experience designing, developing and launching backend systems.
• Comfortable navigating a large codebase, debugging others' code and giving constructive feedback through code reviews.
• Takes ownership of own growth and seeks feedback from team, manager and stakeholders.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills for a global engineering team.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Python or Kotlin.
• Familiarity with distributed systems, AWS, MySQL and Spark.
• Ability to turn a simple problem or business scenario into a solution across multiple software components, with clear, well-tested and extensible code.
