Software Engineer II

About the role

Monzo is looking for a Backend Software Engineer II to join its growing engineering team in Barcelona. You will work in a cross‑functional squad, collaborating with product managers, designers, data analysts and other engineers to deliver features that directly impact millions of customers.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain backend services for core banking, payments, or related products.
• Collaborate with teammates to define technical solutions and ensure high‑quality code.
• Participate in code reviews, testing, and continuous integration processes.
• Contribute to the reliability, scalability, and security of Monzo’s platform.
• Engage with open‑source communities when relevant.

Required profile

• Strong experience building backend components for technology products.
• Enjoy learning new technologies and tackling complex problems.
• Self‑motivated and comfortable working in a collaborative, squad‑based environment.
• No formal degree required; practical experience is valued.
