Spain Payroll Specialist

About the role

Back Market's People team is transforming its People operations, strengthening global payroll expertise and automating processes with Workday and AI tools. This Spain Payroll Specialist owns the end-to-end Spanish payroll cycle (around 90 employees, growing) and contributes to the international scope and HR automation agenda. The role is based in Barcelona or Bordeaux, is an individual contributor position, and is hybrid with 3 days per week in the office.

Key responsibilities

• Collect and verify payroll inputs, run payslip checks and reconciliations, and ensure accurate, on-time salary payments, taxes and social contributions
• Handle payroll queries quickly and supportively so employees feel informed
• Coordinate with external payroll and benefits providers in Spain, the UK, Germany and France to keep data flows accurate and deadlines tight
• Maintain data quality across HR, payroll, finance and accounting systems and build dashboards to track key metrics
• Partner with HR business partners, recruiters, finance, legal and IT to deliver a seamless employee experience
• Help the Global HR Ops specialist audit and automate People Operations workflows in Spain (onboarding, offboarding, employee changes) using Workday and AI tools

Required profile

• 4-5+ years of hands-on experience processing Spanish payroll
• Solid understanding of Spanish social security, tax requirements and employment legislation
• Experience working with external payroll providers and managing payroll stakeholders
• Nice to have: exposure to UK, German or French payroll
• Degree in HR, payroll, accounting, finance or a related field, or equivalent experience

Required skills

• Strong analytical skills and very detailed attention to detail
• Excellent English communication; Spanish is expected
• Nice to have: Workday or Papaya Global, and knowledge of UK, German or French payroll
