Spanish & Catalan Secondary Teacher (Part-Time Cover)

About the role

The British School of Barcelona (BSB), part of Cognita, is looking for an experienced Spanish and Catalan secondary teacher to join its BSB City Campus team on a part-time, temporary basis to cover a period of staff absence. The school is an HMC institution following the English National Curriculum, with GCSEs, A levels, BTECs and the IB, and serves around 2,350 students.

Key responsibilities

• Primarily teach Catalan A across ESO and Batxillerat, alongside Spanish A at ESO level, with a small allocation of Catalan B.
• Deliver engaging, challenging lessons that develop students' linguistic and literary understanding and prepare them for external examinations.
• Work closely with colleagues in the Languages Department to ensure continuity of learning and maintain high academic expectations.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Philology (Filología).
• Strong subject knowledge of Catalan language and literature, including ESO and Batxillerat curricula, and experience teaching Spanish language and literature at ESO level.
• Excellent command of both Catalan and Spanish, able to teach both to native or highly proficient speakers.
• Ability to plan and deliver lessons that develop analytical, written and oral communication skills.
• Experience preparing students for external exams and understanding assessment requirements.
• Strong classroom management, organisational and communication skills.
• Collaborative and flexible approach, with a commitment to continuity of learning during the absence.
• At least two years of relevant teaching experience is desirable; experience in an international or British school is an advantage.
